We try to show all of our own Chessie's to Championship and have finished nine to date, with Lucky in the works, plus at least four of our Chesaroyal puppies owned by others have earned AKC titles.  While only a few of our puppy buyers compete in the Conformation show ring, we have found that breeding a Conformation Champion dam and sire assures that the offspring will meet the breed standards.  It also demonstrates that our puppies have their heads screwed on and should not panic when the center of attention.  These photos will give you an idea of what our current pups are doing in the show ring.

Lacey

In October '08 we took Lucky & Lacey to the Fall Boise show, not realizing that on Saturday there was a "Bred-by-Exhibitor" classification.  Darned if Peggy and Lacey didn't take Best in BBE for the Chessies and then went into the Sporting Group to take Group 1st!!!  Wow, that's quite an accomplishment, as you can see by Peggy's big grin.  Lacey finished her AKC Championship at the May 2009 Spokane/Coeur d'Alene cluster and added a Grand Championship, and has won many Best of Breeds/Best of Opposite Sex and a Group 2nd!

In July '08 Peggy handled Lacey to a Best of Winners under judge Betsy Horn Humer, a long time Chessie breeder, exhibitor and judge.  Lacey is a carbon copy of her mother, AnnieOakley, and has that same ring savvy that Annie developed.

In the photo to the left, Mr. Tuff and Lacey are pictured together because he won Best of Breed and she took Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed at the 4-day cluster show in Enumclaw, WA two out the four days in August, 2011.  Lacey was almost two weeks into her pregnancy and just beginning to show.  Both Lacey and Tuff are AKC Grand Champions.

Lucky

Earning Lucky's Championship took longer than normal, since the show ring was secondary to her Service Dog duties.  At the Supported Entry in Monroe, WA in November, 2010, she took Winner's Bitch for a 5-point major. Then in April, 2011, Peggy crossed the finish line with Lucky scoring Best of Winners at another Supported Entry, this time in Albany, OR.

Showing Lucky wasn't easy, since she spends most of her time as Service Dog for Chris and is totally focused on him, not the judge.

Here's Lucky in her full Service Dog rig intently watching Chris for directions.  They have worked and traveled together for over 3 years, including numerous trips to Ohio to visit Chris's 99 year-old uncle.  Transportation modes include plane, train, cab, bus and by foot, including a torturous 20-block search in subzero snowy weather in Chicago looking for a suitable potty stop for Lucky.  Brrrr! Here is Lucky's niece, Mocha, working in the Rally show ring with her owner, Jerry Doran.  As a team, they finished both her Novice and Advanced titles in just a few months.   Mocha, who is a Lacey/Tuff daughter from the 2010 litter, is framed next to Lucky because the two of them are outstanding examples of absolute dedication and drive that the Chesapeake Bay Retriever exhibits.

Peggy & Chris show AnnieOakley (l) and her son, Tux (r), to a combination Best of Breed-Winner's Dog double slam at the Nisqually Kennel Club supported entry show in August, 2006.  Tux subsequently finished his Championship and is now in a great hunting/companion home with Hal Hopper.

Michelle Anderson handles Chesaroyal Lord Brushwaters (Duke) for a Best of Winners win at the Walla Walla show in April, 2007.  Duke is full brother of Tux.  Duke has since finished his championship and is the sire of our 2009 June litter.

Peggy and SweetiePie recently went to California for two weeks in 2007 following the Turkey Circuit (it started right after Thanksgiving Day).  Sweetie finished her Championship in Long Beach under with an impressive win over many of the best young bitches that California has to offer.  She is a 2006 Ariel/Grant puppy and sister of  Jackson. In December, 2008 she was shown by Peggy at the Eukanuba/AKC National Championship in Long Beach, CA.  Due to "equipment failure" Sweetie & Peggy failed to impress the judge.

Diane Wurz handles Chesaroyal's Talkin Bout Jackson (a 2006 Ariel/Grant puppy) to a 5-point major Winner's Dog at the Chitimini Kennel Club show in March, 2007.  Jackson finished his AKC Championship at the Yakima show in June, 2009 and is now a Grand Champion.  Diane and co-owner, Nancy Rickerson, have also started training Jackson in field work.  And he has sired three litters, including a couple of Champions and Group Placements.
