Show

We try to show all of our own Chessie's to Championship and have finished eight to date, with Lucky in the works.  And we do it ourselves; we don't use professional handlers.  While only a few of our puppy buyers compete in the show ring, we have found that breeding with Conformation Champion dam and sire assures that the offspring will meet the breed standards.  It also demonstrates that our puppies have their heads screwed on and should not panic when the center of attention.  These photos will give you an idea of what our current pups are doing in the show ring.

Peggy & Chris show AnnieOakley (l) and her son, Tux (r), to a combination Best of Breed-Winner's Dog double slam at the Nisqually Kennel Club supported entry show in August, 2006.  Tux subsequently finished his Championship and is now in a great hunting/companion home with Hal Hopper.

Michelle Anderson handles Chesaroyal Lord Brushwaters (Duke) for a Best of Winners win at the Walla Walla show in April, 2007.  Duke is full brother of Tux.  Duke has since finished his championship and is the sire of our 2009 June litter.

Peggy and SweetiePie recently went to California for two weeks in 2007 following the Turkey Circuit (it started right after Thanksgiving Day).  Sweetie finished her Championship in Long Beach under with an impressive win over many of the best young bitches that California has to offer.  She is a 2006 Ariel/Grant puppy and sister of  Jackson. In December, 2008 she was shown by Peggy at the Eukanuba/AKC National Championship in Long Beach, CA.  Due to "equipment failure" Sweetie & Peggy failed to impress the judge.

SweetiePie whelped 9 puppies on June 21st, 2009.

Diane Wurz handles Chesaroyal's Talkin Bout Jackson (a 2006 Ariel/Grant puppy) to a 5-point major Winner's Dog at the Chitimini Kennel Club show in March, 2007.  Jackson finished his AKC Championship at the Yakima show in June, 2009.  Diane and co-owner, Nancy Rickerson, have also started training Jackson in field work.  And he has sired two litters.

In October '08 we took Lucky & Lacey to the Fall Boise show, not realizing that on Saturday there was a "Bred-by-Exhibitor" classification.  Darned if Peggy and Lacey didn't take Best in BBE for the Chessies and then went into the Sporting Group to take Group 1st!!!  Wow, that's quite an accomplishment, as you can see by Peggy's big grin.  Lacey finished her AKC Championship at the May 2009 Spokane/Coeur d'Alene cluster, and has won several Best of Breeds.

In July '08 Peggy handled Lacey to a Best of Winners under judge Betsy Horn Humer, a long time Chessie breeder, exhibitor and judge.  Lacey is a carbon copy of her mother, AnnieOakley, and has that same ring savvy that Annie developed.

Lucky scored a great win at the Supported Chessie Entry in Monroe, WA last November.  Her placement as Winner's Bitch gave her a 5-point major, bring her Championship point total to 11 or the 15 required.

Showing Lucky is not easy, since she spends most of her time as Service Dog for Chris and is totally focused on him, not the judge.  But she's got great confirmation and is in superb physical condition from playing and running with Ollie, so we win often enough to keep working at it.

Since showing Lucky is secondary to her Service Dog duties, it's going to take longer to finish her Championship, but we'll get there eventually.
